What is this masterclass with Mustafa Özel about?
We are thrilled that Mustafa wants to give a masterclass at the Wackers Academie! This is what he writes about the two-day lesson:
“In this workshop, in addition to portrait practice, the logic and process of creating artistic perspective will also be evaluated! It will be demonstrated that art is not simply dependent on a skill in the basic sense, and how the artistic perception necessary for this is formed will be shown through practices. Moreover, the importance of palette usage in portraiture, and the diversity of alternative color and tone scales will be emphasized. At this point, the illusion of reality, along with what individual expression in portraiture means, will be discussed.”

About Mustafa Özel
Mustafa Özel was born in Turkey in 1961. He graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Marmara in 1984. A year after graduation Mustafa exhibited in his first solo show at Dort Boyut Art Gallery in Istanbul. This was followed by numerous exhibitions in Turkey and internationally. Mustafa’s portraits have been selected twice to exhibit at the BP Portrait Awards in London. He reflects feelings like pain, joy, resistance, happiness through painting of human bodies and portraits. Instead of instant statements, one can see continuity and life-experience in his portraits.
Mustafa has painted the portraits of people around himself except a few ones. There have been the traces of time, not moment in those portraits. What we see is the psychological depth not superficiality in a way. Mustafa evaluates the endurance of mankinds against life in the series ‘Body in space’. The concept of time is out in those pictures.
