About this summer course
In this practical workshop participants will have the possibility to assemble the figure from imagination without any reference. We will predominantly work with movement, drawing the propagation of figure in time, special interaction, evolution of the compositional space with respect to time, realistic appearance of the figure, abstract elements. Critique is provided individually.
Main goals: human figure, line quality, line balance, body parts, complete figure, motion, realistic appearance, tension between figures.
Materials: charcoal, hard eraser, any paper.
Day 1 – Discussing the landscape / portrait formats of paper, charcoal technical aspects, compositional methods and warm up exercises.
Day 2 – Introducing the first two figures into the imaginative environment, creating the tension between the two, trying different placement, thing about perspective and angles. Drawing five different two people environments. Introducing some color.
Day 3 –Adding the third and fourth person to the existing two figures. Working on clustering, overlapping, adding expression to the gesture.
Day 4 – Introducing the background crowd and figures in the foreground, exploring the compositional tension, adding distracting elements, adding facial expressions.
Day 5 – Finalizing the drawing by balancing the linework, values. Adding highlights with white pastel, adding color.

About Misha Bart
Misha Bart is a contemporary figurative artist with a degree in Chemical Engineering that he received from Politecnico di Milano. His technical background has a strong influence on the way the space, lines, values, and shapes are manipulated and expressed. Complexity, ambiguity, emotional charge, and realistic appearance are the main aspects of his work.
